I believe that this soldier, E.A. HARDY is the same Edward Alex HARDEY who enlisted for service in the First World War with the Australian Imperial Force, service no. 667, 11th Battalion, F company. Edward presented for enlistment at Kalgoorlie, Western Australia on 16 August 1914 giving the details of his mother, Mrs M.I. Hardey of 248 Lichfield St, Christchurch, New Zealand as his next of kin. He was 35 years and 9 months old and it is noted on his enlistment papers that he had previously served in South Africa.
Edward fought in the Gallipoli campaign from April until September 1915 when he was evacuated sick, being returned to Australia medically unfit on 11 March 1916. He was discharged on 7 August 1916 with the final rank of company sergeant major.
Edward married in Perth, Western Australia in September 1917 and lived there until his death on 3 January 1935.
