Hugh Decimus Bridge was my mother's father, Lance was his brother. They were two of ten sons and lived on Oriental bay. Hugh did know my mother who was born before he left for the war. She was born on May 21st 1916 and Hugh was killed at Passchendaele on 25 November 1917. Mum was just 18 months old.
They were remembered last year in the Wellington - Lest We Forget Wall Stories project. All descendants who were able to be there came to the bus stop on Oriental bay and we took a photograph of us all with the three brothers - Hugh, Lionel and Cyprian. The two latter brothers returned from the war.
