Clara E. LANGLEY is Clara Eliza LANGLEY ca 1867-1946. Clara seems to have written her illiterate future mother-in-law Ann BISHOP’s name on the Suffrage Petition; duly signed with “X”. Clara m. 8 Aug 1893 William John ARNOLD 1861-1941. William was a carpenter, farmer and part-time stock agent sourcing swine from Manawatu and Horowhenua for Dimock and Co. of Wellington. He was a Primitive Methodist lay preacher most active in the 1890s and 1900s. His wood working skills were imparted by his coachbuilder / wheelwright stepfather William Henry BISHOP.
Clara and William became dedicated Salvationists: semi-professional from about 1913. They were moved around a lot. The Auckland Star of 17 April 1914 reported that “W.J. ARNOLD” objected in the Onehunga Magistrates Court to military drill on the grounds that it interfered with Salvation Army meetings. Both buried at Hillsborough. 2 known sons, possibly other children. William George ARNOLD b. 26 May 1894-? m. 1919 Ethel MacVICAR; Herbert Willis ARNOLD born and died 1904.
