Sarah Ann Doyle nee Glassey was baptised in Markethill. County Armagh, Ireland in 1838. Her parents were William Glassey and Dorcas Burns. She emigrated to Lyttelton on the ship 'Huntress' in 1863, and five years later married John Doyle in Christchurch. At that time Sarah's stated occupation was 'domestic servant' and John was a farmer. They settled in Ruapuna and had a family of eight children. Sarah died in Ashburton in 1904.
