I'm a descendent on the family tree also - my name being Shane Mervyn Francis (born in Whakatane too but living in Papamoa now and currently I'm an Officer in the NZ Police). My Great Great Grand Mother was Thomas's mother Emma Jane Francis. I'm in process of researching my family tree / history and came across this site and looking to learn more about my Great Uncles who served in the wars.

The Francis family is having a gathering at the old cemetery in Landing Road, Whakatane Labour weekend 2022 to unveil Emma Jane Francis's headstone. You are very welcome to come along if you can. My great grandmother was Emma Jane and my Nan was married to John James Francis
Thomas Francis's brother. We have extensive information on the family and am happy for you to contact me. Regards Helen Bromley
