Charles Wix was the sixth child of eleven children born to George and Mary (Povey) Wix in Burghfield, Berkshire, England on 27 December 1853.
He came to New Zealand in the 1870s and settled in Dunedin. He was a butcher by trade and had a shop in Main St. South Dunedin. He married Elizabeth Ings the eldest daughter of William and Elizabeth (Russell) Ings from South Dunedin on 10 March 1886.
In 1894 he sold his butchery business and moved to Richmond, Nelson after purchasing an
orchard. He grew small fruits and specialised in rhubarb. William was an active member of the Richmond Baptist Church and was a Lay Preacher.
William and Elizabeth had seven children all educated at the Richmond Primary School. A son William, won a Scholarship to attend Nelson College for two years in 1902 .

My Grandfather signed this piece of history.
He was regarded as being a bit before his time.
