Emily Frederiksen was the daughter -in-law of Emmanuel and Helena Frederksen ( my maternal great-grandparents ) who were Pioneers of the settlement of Norsewood. Ardent Methodists Emily and her husband Karl were active members of the Temperance Union in Norsewood. Disturbed by the domestic violence and poverty they saw around them, they hoped that by women having the vote, Parliament would take action and address these problems, which they believed were created by alcoholism.
