Laura Anderson was my great-grandmother. Her father-in-law, John Anderson, had been the second mayor of Christchurch and founded Anderson's engineering company, which saw to many big projects, such as railways and hydro-electric schemes, over the years. Laura's mother was French, I think, but I don't know very much else about her, apart from that she was a formidable character, by all accounts.
