Donnelle we are looking for people to commemorate their families in the Suffrage in Stitches project at the Wellington Museum. Please can you contact the project team if you are interested. Alternatively please provide more information about your ancestor so others can consider stitching in her memory.

This is Mary Eliza Hurst (nee Hodgson), July 1847 - 11 September 1933.

Mary and her husband, Christopher Hurst, arrived in Lyttelton on the Waitangi in 1880, with seven children. She was carried off the ship in a stretcher, having recently suffered a late miscarriage. In 1886, the couple purchased the Brooklands estate in Waimate. Their family grew further.

Mary is my great-great grandmother, and I have pictures and other information available.
