Paddy Crowe was well known throughout Southland and was one of the first there to volunteer. Took his own horse Blackbird. Was a dispatch rider. Met Cecil Rhodes and a number of top brass. Served overseas for one year. Paraded with his unit in Sydney Federation Day parade en route home. Posed for the Invercargill Troopers Memorial, erected 1906. Married Alice Logan. Died 1951.
