Mrs F. W. A. Franks is my great-great-grandmother. She was born Mary Ann Winskill in April 1849 in Penrith, Cumberland in the north of England. She was the eldest daughter of George and Ann Winskill, and emigrated to New Zealand with her parents and younger sister Margaret on the 'Zealandia', arriving in Lyttelton in December 1858. She married Francis William Anthony Franks in November 1865 and gave birth to fourteen children. She died at Leithfield in 1935.
