Biographical information provided by Kate Manson for the He Tohu exhibition:
Elizabeth Murray Dalton was born in 1864. She married William Ezra Dalton in 1882. The couple had at least one son, Ezra Hill Dalton, born 1886, who grew up to be a shearer.
Ezra was 28 when Elizabeth became one of the thousands of mothers to wave goodbye to her son as he set off for to war in 1915. Two years later he was shot in the spine while serving on the Western Front. He was cared for at the Red Cross Hospital in Wellington where the Matron described him as a ‘shining example of courage and cheerfulness.’ His mother would have been proud.
