Ōmata war memorial

Ōmata war memorial

When the Ōmata First World War memorial obelisk was unveiled it listed the names of 11 local men who had made the supreme sacrifice. After the Second World War, five more names were added. In 2002 the names of 49 men and one woman (Nurse F. Crompton) who had also served were added, as were 32 names from the Second World War. On 15 November 2019 the names of George and Herman Bollinger were added to the First World War list (the brothers had originally been omitted because they were of German descent).

The National Library holds a copy of the Ōmata District roll of honour, circulated after the First World War.

In 2019 two more names were added on to the memorial to commemorate Omata residents, George and Herman Bollinger who died in action in WW1, but whose names were left off the memorial.
