Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Margaret Lumb was born about 1860 – the daughter of George Lumb, a shipping agent, and Agnes Gilbert.

She grew up in Dunedin and when she signed the suffrage petition she was living in St Andrew St working as a tailoress.

She married Thomas Fairbairn, a bootmaker, in 1896. They appear to have had a son in 1886 registered under the name of Lumb.

Thomas died in 1923 at their home in Mornington, Dunedin and Margaret died on 22 August 1943, they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.

Ahem. The date of death is incorrect. She died in 1943; having married in 1896, she could hardly have died in 1843, could she?
