I am a daughter of John Ward McKain's second family. My mother was Agnes Rachel Hosie. My father was a saddler and harnessmaker. When my parents were married about 1934,my father was a saddler at the Kaupokonui Dairy Factory in Taranaki. In 1938 we moved to Featherson in the South Wairarapa where he set up his own shop and workshop. He lived there until his death on 7th October 1965. As the oldest returned serviceman in Featherston he lead the ANZAC Day parade for many years. He had much sadness about his war time experience as well as some pride for serving his country. He was a wonderful caring father and I feel priviledged to be his daughter.
