Mary Allison was born 16 April 1840, Berwick Northumberland, England.

Her Parent were Elizabeth (nee ARCHBOLD) and William Grey.

Mary arrived on the Larkins at Port Chalmers on 11 November 1849 with her parents and six siblings.

Mary Married George PETCHELL on 15 March 1859 and they had three children: Eliza Paitence (14/1/1860), Mary Ella Annie Maria (7/3/1861) and William Henry (26/12/1863).

After George died in 1866, Mary married Alexander ALLISON on 23 August 1869. (Alexander arrived at Port Chalmers from Glenluce Scotland on the Aboukir 1864).

They had three children: 

Mary Elizabeth (18/6/1870), who also signed the Petition. 

Florence (9/10/1872) who married Charles Nicolas ARTHUR (from The Nuggets on the Caitlins). Charles was born on Jersey Channel Island on 5 May 1873 and arrived in New Zealand in 1874 with his parents. One brother was born at sea, another two siblings born in New Zealand.

And Fanny Louisa (20/5/1878), who married Charles ARTHUR’s brother Frederick W ARTHUR.

Mary and Alexander ALLISON owned a farm called 'Hazel Dell' in Puerua. Alexander’s Brother John ALLISON and his wife Isobella owned the neighbouring farm 'Ladyburn'.

Mary ALLISON died 7 April 1895 in Puerua and is buried at Romahapa Cemetery with her husband Alexander who died 21 October 1893.

Mary ALLISON is my Great Great Grandmother; her daughter Florence is my Great Grandmother.

Florence and Charles ARTHUR’s son Charles Alexander married Winifred Maria BLAIR on 14 April 1938 and they are my Paternal Grandparents.

Charles and Winifred’s son Norman Lindsay Gray ARTHUR is my Father and my mother is Nalda Florence nee PAYNE.
