Sarah Ann CORNEY nee Gledhill, was my husband's great grandmother. She was born about 1838 in Halifax Yorkshire, England. In 1851 she was living with her parents at 25 Gardeners Square, Halifax and her occupation was Worsted Factory Spinner & Scholar, in 1861 she's still with her parents at 3 York St, Halifax and is a Mill Hand. She arrived in Nelson New Zealand on March 30th 1863 on the “Electra” where she was met by her husband to be Jeremiah CORNEY, he might have waited a while as the boat had been delayed for nearly a month. They married on the 31st March 1863 at Christ Church, Nelson. Exactly one year later she gave birth to Robert in Christchurch (the first of 4 boys and 5 girls). They moved to Wanganui where they lived until Jeremiah died. Sarah moved to Palmerston North after her husband’s death, where she died in Arapuni, Palmerston North on 16 November 1918 at the age of 80 and was buried in the Terrace End Cemetery, Palmerston North.
