H Mornington on the 1892 Suffrage Petition
Hannah Mannington was born in 1855 in Kent, England – the daughter of William Mannington, a grocer, and Martha Roswell.
She emigrated to New Zealand and when she signed the suffrage petition she was living in Palmerston, North Otago with her widowed sister Elizabeth.
She later moved to Timaru where she worked as a machinist.
In 1897 Hannah married William Shearer, a widower and farmer, and they lived in Wellington.
In 1929 82 year old William, whose memory was failing, went missing from his home. His body was found in a gully near the Karori Cemetery.
Hannah remained in Wellington. She died in July 1948 and is buried with William in the Karori Cemetery.
