Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Frances Lydia Stead/Steed was born about 1863 in England.

She came to New Zealand and she married Peter Hill McConachy, a farmer, on 12 May 1881 in Queenstown.

They had 11 children and when Frances signed the suffrage petition the family were living at Glenorchy at the head of Lake Wakatipu.

Frances and Peter moved to Gore in the 1900s before later retiring to Timaru where Peter worked as a billiard saloon proprietor.

Peter died in Timaru in 1936 and Frances died on 20 September 1944 in Dunedin, they are buried together in the Timaru Cemetery.
