Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley:

Anne McLeod was born in Scotland about 1829, she married Hector McBeath, a coach painter, in Nigg, Kincardineshire, in 1848.

They had four children, two of whom appear to have died in infancy. In 1859 Annie with her two children sailed on the Lightning for Melbourne, Australia - presumably Hector had sailed earlier. They had another two children in Victoria before sailing for Port Chalmers on the Edina in 1863. A further four children were born in New Zealand.

When Anne signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Gordon St, South Dunedin.

Hector died in 1909 and Anne died on 31 January 1911. They are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
