The 1893 electoral roll lists Mary Wallis, Glenore, Housewife.

Allan Waugh (great-grandson) tells us her maiden name was Mary Christina Wells and that she had 12 children. Her husband died at Seacliff Lunatic Asylum aged 51 having been incacerated there for about five years. Below are some documents relating to these events, including a letter Mary wrote to Dr Truby King, asking about the state of her husband and hoping for some good news.

hi my name is Beverley Lane (maiden name Thompson). My great great grandmother was Mary Christina Wallis. My great grandmother was Grace Pauline Biddell Maiden name Wallis.
Grace suppose to have had a daughter by the name of Annie Christina Wallis born in Otago in 1892 . Apparently they migrated to Australia in approximately 1908
I would appreciate any info you may have.

I too have a bit of information regarding William Wallis. He was also my great grandfather. He was admitted to seacliff about 1901. He thought he had a lot of strength and got caught walking around the railway yard in Dunedin with a rifle. When looking at his death cert and cause of death it can be worked out that he went nuts because of an illness

Mrs Wm Wallis was my Great Grand-mother. She was Mary Wells and she married William Walter Wallis at Milton on 11 October 1875. They had 12 children and lived most of their lives in Glenore. William died in the Seacliff Lunatic Asylum at age fifty on 6 September 1906. Mary died in 1936. I have much information about the family.
