Farming settlement 32km south-west of Oamaru.
Meaning of place name
Named after Sir Sydney Herbert, the British secretery of war who was responsible for sending Florence Nightingale to the Crimea, and who was a member of the Canterbury Association. He died in 1861 while a surveyor was mapping the topography of the Herbert district.
