Farming locality 2km north of the northern end of Lake Brunner, 35km south-east of Greymouth.

Meaning of place name
Lit: white heron. Kōtuku is also an abbreviation of a Māori name for Lake Brunner: Kōtuku-whakaoka: kotuku: white heron; whakaoka: to stab; referring to the habit of the kotuku in darting its long sharp beak to catch fish.
