Locality situated on the left bank of the Hokitika River, about 6km south-east of Hokitika. Formerly an important goldmining centre.
Meaning of place name
The surveyor Dacre, who was responsible for the survey of Dacre and Woodstock on the West Coast, came from St Ronans near Woodstock, Oxfordshire, England, and probably gave the name.
