The Kaukapakapa public hall was originally built in 1890. After the Second World War, the building was remodelled and extended. It was reopened as the district’s war memorial hall in 1954. The Kaukapakapa Second World War roll of honour consisted of 88 names inscribed on four marble tablets which were set on pillars at the hall’s entrance.

In 1999 the hall was relocated to a site that was less prone to flooding. The memorial tablets were placed in storage. Fourteen years later they were brought back into public view, being placed on a new memorial cenotaph constructed at the front of the hall. This was dedicated on 25 April 2013.
