Waitapu Urupa influenza memorial, New Plymouth

The Waitapu Urupa influenza memorial commemorates ‘the resting place of unknown loved ones who died from the Great Flu Epidemic in Taranaki’. Local mason, Callum Mahy, erected a stone tablet in consultation with the urupa trustees of Ngāti Te Whiti hapū, after learning more about the urupa and those buried there on a nearby project.

The memorial was unveiled on 10 November 2018.
