The Waitapu Urupā influenza memorial commemorates ‘the resting place of unknown loved ones who died from the Great Flu Epidemic in Taranaki’. Local mason Callum Mahy erected a stone tablet in consultation with the urupā trustees of Ngāti Te Whiti hapū, after learning about the urupā and those buried there while working nearby on a project.
The memorial was unveiled on 10 November 2018.
