Pencarrow Head painting

A view from the coastal hills beyond Pencarrow Head, looking west to the entrance to Wellington Harbour, where Barrett Reef is visible. A primitive lighthouse (a beacon) can be seen on the rocks at the Head. Two Maori are seated atop a cliff on the left, overlooking the sea; two Pakeha travellers with a dog are walking up a path to the right in the foreground, with a third Maori ahead of them.

Painting by Charles Brees, c.1843.
