Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.
Mary Annie Ball was born in 1867 in New Zealand – the daughter of Edward Ball, a journalist, and Mary Jane Satchell.
She married George James Anderson, a proof reader, in 1890 and they had five children.
When Mary signed the suffrage petition they were living with George’s mother (See 58 M Anderson) in St David St, Dunedin.
In 1900 the family moved to Gore where George purchased an interest in the “Mataura Ensign”.
George was elected as a Member of Parliament in 1908 and they moved to Wellington. He served until 1928 when he was defeated in the election.
George died in 1935 and Mary died on 24 December 1960 – they were both cremated in Wellington.
