Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Eliza Harding was born in about 1838 in London, England. Eliza married William Boult in St Giles, London, in 1857, and they had two sons.

In 1860 the family arrived in Auckland, New Zealand on the Rob Roy. Their eldest son died in 1861 in Auckland, and they had another 10 children in New Zealand.

In about 1870 the family moved to Waitahuna in Otago, then called Havelock. Their two youngest children died there in 1873 followed by William in April of 1874, aged 44. They are all buried in the Waitahuna Cemetery.

Later in the year Eliza applied to the school board to have four of her children admitted as free scholars, and her request was granted. A local appeal collected £200 for the family.

The family moved to Dunedin in the early 1880s and lived in the Kensington area.

Eliza died on 25 January 1896 and she is buried in the Southern Cemetery with her daughter Rachel.
