Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Margaret Barnett Brugh was born in 1866 in Port Molyneux – the daughter of James Brugh, a farmer, and Isabella Thomson. (See 126 Isabella Brugh)
When Margaret signed the suffrage petition she was living at the family farm 'Wisphill Station' near Purekireki in the Owaka Valley.
About 1896 Margaret, with her mother and her two sisters, (See 126 C A Brugh and 126 M C Brugh) moved to Dunedin and lived in Serpentine Avenue.
She married John Mailer, a miner, on 30 December 1902 at First Church, Dunedin.
They lived at Stillwater on the West Coast until about 1911 when they moved to Balclutha and built a house at Rosebank.
She died of complications following influenza at her home on 27 November 1918 and is buried in the family grave in the Romahapa Cemetery.
After Margaret’s death John made annual visits 'home' to Scotland by steamer. It was on one of these visits that he died in Larbert in 1936.
