Emma Dunning was born about 1868 in Guernsey in the Channel Islands – the daughter of Henry Dunning, a butcher, and Agnes Lee.
She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1875 on the Margaret Galbraith.
The family settled in Rothesay, Dunedin where Emma signed the suffrage petition.
They later moved to Albany St - Emma married James Augustus McAslan, a grain salesman, in 1902.
They had one son and lived in Andersons Bay, Dunedin.
Emma died at her home on 20 February 1933, she is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
James re-married the following year and he died in 1943, he was cremated.
Her sister, Annie, also signed sheet 61.
