Martha Ann Currie was born in 1866 in New Zealand – the daughter of John Currie, a produce merchant, and Mary Hartley. (See 43 Mary Currie)

She grew up in Oamaru where she married printer William Hart on 27 August 1884.

They had five daughters and when Martha signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Reed St, Oamaru.

They moved to Hastings in the 1910s where William died in 1939 and Martha died on 13 April 1943.

They are buried in the Hastings Cemetery.
