Jane Shaw was born about 1844 in England.
She came to New Zealand and she married James Cruse, a ship’s carpenter from Sweden, in 1876.
James died in Dunedin in 1880.
In May 1882 Jane took John Pringle to court for damages to her dress caused by his dogs. She was awarded damages of £1 with costs.
Later that year, on 26 July at Hillside, Caversham, Jane married John Morton Hornby, a divorced ship’s carpenter.
Jane had no children and when she signed the suffrage petition they were living in Phillip St, South Dunedin.
Also signing in nearby David St, Caversham was Jane’s sister Elizabeth. (See 64 Elisabeth Thornburgh)
John died at their home in 1901 and Jane died on 28 July 1928, they are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
