Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Helen Miller was born in 1869 in New Zealand – the daughter of James Miller, a farmer, and Margaret Miller. (See 128 Margaret Miller)
When Helen signed the suffrage petition she was living at the family farm, 'Kinpauch' near Port Molyneux.
She married James Campbell McLachlan, a farm labourer, on 12 November 1895 at the First Church Manse.
They had seven children and lived in Green Island and Caversham before Helen died at their home in Cargill St on 30 December 1913 leaving a very young family.
Her sister Mary (See 128 Mary Miller) came to help with the family and after James died in 1916 she continued to look after the children.
Helen and James are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
