Florence Shirly/Shirley was born in Victoria, Australia in 1871 – the daughter of John Shirley & Sarah Jane Sheppard.
In February 1874, the family sailed for Lyttleton on the Otago before moving to Dunedin in the 1880’s.
When Florence signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in High St working as a tailoress.
She married Bartlett Provo, a brass founder, in 1894 & they had 6 daughters, one who died in infancy.
Bartlett died at their home in 1921 & Florence died on April 11th 1930, they are buried with their young daughter in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
