Jessie Baird was born about 1833. She married Robert Stevenson, a wheelwright from Scotland.
They emigrated to Victoria, Australia in 1853 on the Childe Harold.
They had three daughters in Victoria, one dying in infancy, before they came to Otago about 1863. A further three children were born in New Zealand.
Robert died at their home in Russell St, Dunedin in 1887. The family were still living in Russell St when Jessie signed the suffrage petition. Her daughter Jessie F Stevenson also signed the petition.
Jessie died on 18 June 1904 at her home in Dundas St, Dunedin. She is buried with Robert in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
