HMNZS <em>Kiwi</em> attacking submarine

Official War Artist Russell Clark depicts HMNZS Kiwi attacking the Japanese submarine I-1. The big sub had removed one of its deck guns to make room for a landing craft needed for its new mission of ferrying troops and supplies.

My father Colin Bruce Anderson was a stoker on the KIWI. I had no idea this event took place. could you share any details please.

I have a copy of a citation for valour issued by admiral halsey to stoker clyde lacy RN who was attached to HMNZS kiwi during the incident with ramming the Japanese submarine
