Tūngia signed Te Tiriti at Port Nicholson on 29 April 1840. He lived at Ngaiopiko at the northern end of Kāpiti Island. He was married to Rere-o-maki, who also signed this sheet. Their children were Kēpa and Ōriwia Te Aka. Tūngia migrated to Kāpiti in the early 1820s with Ngāti Toa from Kāwhia under Te Rauparaha.
