Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Agnes Henderson was born in Victoria, Australia in 1855 — the daughter of William Henderson and Margaret Hervey/Harvey. (See 33 Mrs Henderson)

The family travelled to New Zealand in about 1861 and settled at Highcliff on the Otago Peninsula near Dunedin.

She married Richard Anderson, a farmer, at her family home on 21 April 1876.

They had five children and lived, at first, in Broad Bay before they moved to Rothesay on the opposite side of the Otago Harbour and opened a grocery shop.

Richard died at their home in 1912 and Agnes died at her daughter’s home on 16 September 1949, at the age of 94.

Her obituary says she 'was the oldest member of the Hanover Street Baptist Church, having been associated with it for over 60 years.'

She is buried with Richard in the Northern Cemetery.
