She came to New Zealand with her family in the mid-1880s. They lived for a time in Mosgiel before they moved to Southland around 1889.

When Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Colac Bay.

She married Alexander Clode, a sawmiller, on 24 September 1895 and the following day she died. Elizabeth is buried with her father in the Riverton Cemetery.

Alexander re-married in 1903, he had 11 children and he died in Taihape in 1940. He is buried in the Taihape Cemetery.
