Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Clara Canty-Byron was born about 1864 in New Zealand – the daughter of Charles Canty Byron, a miner, and Catherine Miller.
She married Arthur Joseph Williamson, a storekeeper, on 2 February 1887 at her home in Kumara on the West Coast.
They had a son later that year and Arthur also filed for bankruptcy.
He was declared bankrupt again in 1891 and when Clara signed the suffrage petition they were living in Greymouth.
Her mother-in-law Louisa also signed. (See 534 L Sutcliffe)
Around 1900 the family moved to New South Wales where Clara died on 13 November 1932 – she is buried in the Rookwood General Cemetery.
Arthur died in 1943 – he is buried in St Bartholomew’s Anglican Church Cemetery.
