Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Christina Hynd was born on March 1st 1827 in Fife, Scotland – the daughter of Thomas Hynd and Christian Fraser.
She is probably the Christina Hynd who arrived in 1858 on the Strathallan.
Christina married Edward Rowe on 6 March 1863 in the Tapanui parish and they had two daughters.
They lived in Dunedin until around 1878 when they moved to Waikaka and bought a farm under the deferred payment scheme.
Edward died at Waikaka in 1881 – he is buried in the Gore Cemetery.
When Christina signed the suffrage petition she was living in Gore, possibly with her daughter. (See 133 Christina J F Fryer)
She moved to the North island in the 1900s where she died at Hawera on 1 September 1917 – she is buried in the Hawera Cemetery.
