Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Dorothy Lloyd was born in 1872 in Lancashire, England – the daughter of Edward Lloyd, a miner, and Harriet Booth. (See 246 H Lloyd)
In 1888 Dorothy emigrated to New Zealand on the Tongariro with her mother & siblings to join her father who appears to have travelled earlier.
They settled at Taylorville, near Greymouth, where Dorothy married John Evans, a coal miner, in 1890. They had four children and Dorothy signed the suffrage petition at Taylorville.
Shortly after this the family moved to Taranaki for two years before leaving for Wellington for the next 14 years.
Around 1915 they went to live in Ashhurst in the Manawatū and took up farming.
John died there in 1933 and Dorothy died on 13 February 1957 – they are buried together in the Ashhurst Cemetery.
