Eleanor Watterson was born about in 1835 in the Isle of Man – the daughter of John Watterson and Jane Cregeen.
She emigrated to New Zealand where she married miner James McLaren in 1876. They had one daughter and when Eleanor signed the suffrage petition they were living in Greymouth.
Eleanor’s sister (See 246 Jane Hughes) also signed in Greymouth.
Eleanor and James’ daughter died in May 1911 and Eleanor died shortly after on 25 July.
James remained in Greymouth – he died in the Grey Hospital in 1923.
The family are buried in the Stillwater Cemetery.
