Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Elizabeth Sharp was born on 1 August 1873 in Lanarkshire, Scotland – the daughter of Andrew Sharp, a cooper, and Jane Darling. (See 144 Mrs Sharpe)

She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1874 on the Wild Deer and they settled in Dunedin.

When Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition they were living in Opoho.

She married Joseph Ambrose Abrams, an artilleryman, in 1906 and they had two daughters.

They lived in Hamilton then in Ngaruawahia where they ran a boarding house.

Elizabeth died on 29 May 1932 in Hamilton and Joseph died in 1937 – they are both buried in the Hamilton East Cemetery.
