Eliza Whyte was born in 1858 in New Zealand – the daughter of Charles Whyte, a farmer, and Margaret Anderson. (See 84 Margret Whyte)

She grew up on the family farm "Sandridge” near Mosgiel in North Taieri where she signed the suffrage petition.

After her father’s death in 1898 she went to live in Dunedin with her mother.

In 1930 Eliza attended the 72nd anniversary of the North Taieri School and she had the honour of cutting the cake. The “oldest lady ex-pupil present” “who attended the school as long ago as 1862.”

Eliza died in Dunedin on 20 February 1941 – she is buried in the family grave in the East Taieri Cemetery.
