Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Eleanor/Ellen Higginson was born in 1853 in Shropshire, England – the daughter of Samuel Higginson, a tailor, and Eliza Dickin.
It is unclear where she met her 'husband' Henry Boman but their only child, William Leonard, was born in New South Wales in 1872.
By 1879 they were living in Mataura where Ellen signed the suffrage petition.
Henry was from Sweden and he worked as a fireman in a factory.
Two of Ellen’s sisters also emigrated to New Zealand – Sarah and Catherine. (See 66 C Wright)
Henry died in 1917 and Ellen died in Invercargill on 16 February 1943 – she is buried with Henry and William in the Mataura Cemetery.
