Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.
Emma Warren was born in 1849 in Old Newton, Suffolk, England – the daughter of John Warren, an agricultural labourer, and Patience Wells.
She emigrated to Canterbury in 1862 on the Zealandia accompanied by her brother George and sister Eliza.
Emma married William Charles Ladbrook, a farmer, in Christchurch in 1870 – they had 11 children, one who died in infancy.
The family lived, at first, in Prebbleton before moving to Charlton, near Gore, in Southland in 1881.
Emma and her daughter Amy (See 155 Amy Ladbrook) signed the petition in North East Valley although they were living in Charlton at the time.
William died at their home The Pines in 1912 and Emma died at her daughter’s home in Oporo on 19 October 1919 – they are buried together in the Gore Cemetery.
