Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Frances Fanny Steer was born in 1865 in New Zealand – the daughter of William Steer, a shoemaker, and Elizabeth Dunckley. (See 247 E Steer).

She married William Daly Revington in 1889 and they had two sons.

William ran a drapery business before taking the job of hotel manager.

Frances signed the suffrage petition in Greymouth before the family moved to Dunedin to run the Grand Hotel.

In 1897 they returned to Greymouth to run the Post Office Hotel, then Revington’s Hotel.

William died in 1908 and is buried in the Karoro Cemetery.

Frances lived in Parnell and Pukekohe.

She died on 2 November 1960 in Nelson – she is buried in the Wakapuaka Cemetery.
