She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1874 on the Buckinghamshire and they settled in Dunedin.

When Annie signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Maitland Street working as a tailoress.

She married Thomas Ryan, a police constable, in 1900 and they had and children.

They lived in Kumara then in Westport before moving to Wellington.

Thomas died at their home in 1942 and Annie died on 12 September 1960 – they are buried together in the Karori Cemetery.
